Steelseries Diablo 3 Mouse Review
So its been a pretty fun week for me over here at Horde Review. We got accepted by Steelseries to review products, and they sent us the WoW Legendary MMO mouse, Diablo 3 Headset, and obviously the Diablo 3 Mouse which we are talking about today to start with.
The first thing to consider with the Diablo III mouse is the fact that it is designed specifically for Diablo 3, and the realm of Sanctuary. This is a novelty mouse that is aimed at getting you the most out of one specific game. While the mouse its self is compatible with any game you play, you will only get the maximum potential out of the Diablo 3 Mouse’s aesthetics, drag and drop driver features, and overall compatibility while you are playing within Diablo 3.
Steelseries makes some large claims to the durability testing this mouse has had to endure in order to make it worthy of carrying the label of the most click intensive game on the planet we know as Diablo III. To back up those claims they have even included a statistics tab within the driver in order for you to track how many button presses each button has actually received. I think that is a sure way to back up their durability claim, and I am excited to see just how many clicks I actually do make within Diablo III over the countless hours I plan to play it.
Diablo III Mouse Pros:
The visual aspects of the mouse are really cool with a demon red pulsating glow and design taken straight out of the realm of Sanctuary. The Diablo III mouse is really a piece of gaming hardware artwork. The custom driver of the mouse also compliments Diablo III with its artwork, and provides a complete interface which allows you to customize each key on the mouse with macro’s or preset gaming functions using a drag and drop interface to better simplify the process of customizing your game play.
Designed for compatibility the Steelseries Diablo III mouse has matching buttons on each side to accommodate either a left or right handed player making it a very hard to find ambidextrous gaming mouse. Coming out of the box you will also find that the Diablo III mouse and driver is completely compatible with both Mac and Windows operating systems with seamless compatibility between the two. I tested the mouse on both Windows 7 and Mac OS X with a user experience that was consistent and completely free of bugs on either side which surprises me when most new gaming hardware you receive at least has some sort of mild problems.
Durability tested; and Steelseries is very confident in making these claims. Backing up their words by adding a click counter within the user interface which will allow you to track exactly how many key presses each button on your Diablo III mouse has received throughout the life of your Diablo III gaming mouse. Deadly accurate the Diablo III mouse also supports up to 5700 counts per inch (CPI) which means that your lasers sensitivity can be set to an ultra sensitive state which will allow you to be right on target with even the most slight movement of your Mouse.
Diablo III Mouse Cons:
While I personally love the idea of owning a mouse specifically designed for Diablo III. Other people may find that as the new wears off of the game, the coolness of this design may wear with it. As well all of the custom driver settings are targeting the Diablo III fan specifically, and even though it is a gaming mouse without any question you may find it weird to be setting it up for other games while using the Diablo III interface. I am sure gamers are playing many other games besides Diablo III so the mouse has really limited its self once gamers move on from Diablo.
While Diablo 3 may not require you to use a whole lot of custom key binds, other games you play may require you to. The Diablo 3 boasts 7 buttons, however you realistically are losing 2 of those as they are placed on the opposite side of the mouse than where your thumb is depending on if you are right or left handed. I wish we had the option of having a couple more buttons in the mix.
Diablo III Personal Rating
My opinion of the mouse is good, however I think there are a few other mice that top it on my list. One of those mice would be the WoW MMO legendary mouse also from Steelseries which features 5 additional buttons on the side which are all programmable and able to run custom macro’s. Short of this fault the mouse is certainly premium and features all of the sensitivity and durability tweaks you expect from a pro gaming mouse. I feel the mouse is very similar in design to the Sensei also available from Steelseries, but comes with the added bonus of all the Diablo styled theme. If you love Diablo this is a pro gaming mouse designed specifically for you. If the Diablo theme is not such a big deal to you, but you love the idea of this mouse I suggest you check out the Sensei also from Steelseries.

Diablo III Mouse Review Appearance
The Diablo III has a powder black base coat with what appears to be tribal art designs taken directly out of Sanctuary with the permission of Blizzard who partnered on the Diablo III mouse with Steelseries. The Diablo III mouse has a basic mouse shape and a low profile that I would describe as minimalistic. The artwork adorns the mouse in a way that I think most fans of Diablo will appreciate.
There are two areas of illumination on the mouse wheel and in the palm rest area. The mouse wheel is a basic accent of illumination and the palm rest is the Diablo III logo where both pulsate with a deep demon red. I wish as always when a mouse features just one color that they would have incorporated multi-spectrum lighting, however it seems very fitting to only have the demon red on the Diablo III mouse for obvious reasons.

The appearance review with this mouse must continue on with the driver. The driver its self is a digital piece of artwork taken straight out of Sanctuary as well. The great thing is that it is consistent between both Mac’s and PC’s. So you dont end up with that ugly grey defult theme that other designers feel is good enough for us dirty Mac users. Steelseries showed us some love and actually provided us with a fully detailed, and custom designed driver to match the Windows version. Overall the design and artwork that comes with the mouse is great for a mouse with such a simple design and I feel I have to give Steelseries a high rating in appearance for such a great job on this mouse.

Diablo III Mouse Review Craftsmanship
One of the first things you will notice with either the Steelseries Diablo III headset or Mouse is that they are both incredibly light. Which comes as a bit of a surprise for the durability claims Steelseries makes. I am not exactly sure what the secret is to making the mouse and headset so lightweight is but a lot of people have been commenting on it, and it will certainly standout to you when you hold them.
The cord is braided in nylon with a red and black design which compliments the overall design of the set very nicely.I know in my video review I had a few remarks about the cord possibly fraying or getting worn over time. I have owned several mice that had nylon cords and it is obvious which are made of a high standard and those which aren’t. The Diablo III cord is finely woven and very well placed on the mouse, and I am sure that this cord will last for a reasonable amount of time.
The USB ports are gold plated which is a standard that most gamers are becoming accustomed to today. I think it is a direction that almost any gaming hardware has to go at this point in order to be called premium. The gold tipped ports in my mind despite what I have read probably don’t make much of a difference to the average player, however gold is more conductive than silver or other metals which makes it a request of serious gamers. Steelseries shows their commitment to quality on this mouse by ensuring that they deliver these small details demanded by gamers today.
The design of the mouse is very basic, and if you took off all of the fancy artwork and illumination honestly the mouse would just be a low profile basic mouse with 2 additional buttons. There are no grooves in which to slide your pinky or thumb into, and the buttons are minimal. This is a draw back and also effects the ergonomics of the mouse in my opinion as well. While the quality of materials to construst the mouse are great the design implementations are sort of minimal.

Diablo III Mouse Review Compatibility
Mostly aimed at providing a visually stunning mouse the Diablo III mouse comes with the trimmings of a pro gaming mouse which keeps it securely within the premium section when talking about gaming mouses on the market today. When testing the mouse I look to see if it does all of the things it is advertised to do, and if it performs those functions well.
The driver performed on both Mac and Windows consistently without any types of issues or bugs at all. My only wish is that the mouse had the capability to communicate to the Steelseries drivers and automatically search for the drivers and any updates along with them. So when you receive the mouse be sure to head over to the Steelseries website, pick up the driver, and check back time to time for any possible updates.
The mouse is ambidextrous and the mouse buttons on each side are completely capable of being set to custom macro’s or preset gaming functions from within Diablo III. The biggest problem with the Diablo III mouse for me is the unintuitive way to setup shift, control, and alt modifier keys. You can run any custom macro you want with ease, but setting up modifiers is something I have yet to figure out how to correctly do. I can set it to push shift but then the key sticks until I perform an action which is not exactly what I want it to do. I would like to see the modifier keys have an easy to set up functionality, as of right now it doesnt work well and if you search through the internet you will find many people having problems with this.
You can set the mouse to an extremely high sensitivity or counts per inch (CPI). Basically this is the amount of information the mouse sensor can read for every each of space you move the mouse. Some other mouses may jump or flip around if the company hasnt mastered the technology to set high CPI on their mouses. Steelseries has certainly got the minimum movement sensitivity mastered, and you can expect great accuracy with the Diablo III mouse no matter how you choose to configure the mouse.

Is the Steelseries Diablo III mouse Mac compatible?
Yes the Diablo III mouse and its drivers are completely mac compatible. As I touched on before I always test everything on both Mac and Windows machines. If you are a Mac gamer you can safely purchase this mouse without any fear of having issues as it works seamlessly between either operating system.

Steelseries Diablo III Mouse Review Ergonomics
With a basic mouse design and limited buttons the DIablo III mouse falls short on any sort of comfort or ergonomics. The mouse buttons on each side are meant to give the mouse the ability to function for both left and right handed players but does not offer the functionality to use each button on the mouse. You only get 2 additional buttons to the standard 3 which is included on any mouse you purchase which isn’t much for a mouse that is considered premium.
While the light weight functionality of the mouse is nice as well it can lift up off of the mouse pad if you are to light handed with it, and doesn’t really feel comfortable compared to other mice out there. While I like the look, artwork, custom Diablo features the mouse has had little thought in the way of comfort and design. While I like the mouse, I can’t give it much of a rating in the way of ergonomics.

since this mice is basic design on xai.
xai is too high 2~4mm though it states on the box are ~1mm
