Monks: Next World of Warcraft Hero Class?
With all the speculation around Mists of Pandaria is it possible we could speculate that monks may be the next hero class in WoW? Verusius one of our readers posted this that got me thinking:
If this is in fact the next expansion (and I belive it could be) then Blizzard will probaly keep in line with the other expansions. i.e. TBC= 2 new races WotLK= Hero class: DK and Cat= 2 new races. So I belive this new one will give us a new Hero class and you’ve problaly already guessed where I’m going this, but if you havn’t… Hero class: Monk!!!!! Would be totaly awesome and could fit perfectly. Think about it for second. Unarmed attack bounus, more fist weapons, I could go on all day with stuff they could do with it and besides we want another hero class and who doesn’t want to punch mobs in the face?
I abruptly replied that this is a great thought and that I would post about it to see if we could stir some reaction and even possible speculation.
Epic RL Monks
A monk class would be a cool addition to the World of Warcraft and have long been a valued class in the RPG world of both table top games and even other console and MMORPG games. Even in Warcraft Monks can be found in the Scarlet Crusade and even aligned within the Draenai meaning they could easily be integrated into the game. As Verusius suggested the possibility of another class to make fist weapons even more viable drops.
The last hero class introduced was the Death Knight and players leveled and enjoyed them for a while. Now it has evened out a bit and a recent report on MMO Champion shows that DK’s are the least leveled class to 85 in the game which seems inaccurate on my server but hey its MMO and they are usually spot on with their posts. Surely a new hero class being introduced to wow would lead to playing the early in the expansion having you labeled as a noob and all the Monks won’t know how to play their class just as what happened to the DK. Even now though we are finding there are more and more DK’s out there these days who are very proficient at their class.
All im asking is for some discussion below guys what do you think will be added in the next expansion? How would you take to a Monk class? What ideas would you implement into a possible Monk class.

I’ll probably spend hours looking at names and then giving up and using a name generator, either that let my kids name it. Though they usually want to name them after Star Wars characters or Avatar the last airbender.

I played a Monk in EQ for 5 years before coming to WoW where I play a Rogue as my main. A monk in wow is my dream. Most of the things needed to build a good monk class are there; Feign death, Fist Weapons, Kick, Sprint (monks in DnD can run real fast), Deadly Throw (shurikens), and in Wow Archenai Monks are immune to Crowd Control which would be pretty awesome for a “Hero Class”. Argent Monks have Pummel to interrupt spel casting, and Final Meditation to slow enemies within 15 yds by 70%. This is all currently in the game.
