Phase 1
The tank will rush in to pickup Slabhide and face him away from the party. As all dragons in World of Warcraft Slabhide will periodically cast his frontal cone ability Sand Blast, and of course you want to avoid that 25k worth of damage being spread all over your group by turning the dragon in a safe direction. In addition Slabhide will cast Eruption on random party members who should immediately move once they are hit with it as to avoid the Lava Pool which will immediately spawn under their feet. At this time I dont believe you can avoid the Eruption, but you can completely avoid the Lava Pool by simply moving immediately after you are struck with it.
Current group issues in phase 1 of Slabhide
Not really a whole lot to worry about but tanks should face Slabhide away from the raid, and as always everyone should be avoiding things on the ground.
Phase 2
Shortly after starting the fight Slabhide will ascend into the air and giant stalagmites will begin to fall out of the ceiling onto the ground. It is easy to spot where they will land as a giant black shadow will be cast on the ground where they intend to fall. The Stalagmites will stay in place for a while into the fight making LOS an issue with this fight for the healer specifically, so try to stay in Line of Sight if at all possible. Slabhide will land and continue to use Sand Blast, and Eruption.
Current group issues in phase 2 of Slabhide
Healers being able to find line of sight with everyone is probably the biggest issue here. Its not all just their responsibility. Ive noticed a lot of group’s will try to huddle somewhat together so they are not way off behind two or three obstacles, out of sight of their healers. Healers could use their heal over time AOE’s here very effectively such as a Paladin’s Holy Radiance.
Phase 3
When you notice that Slabhide appears to be rearing back that means he is about to cast his group killer Crystal Storm, and you should use the fallen stalagmites for cover. As he begins to rear back immediately run away, and place one of the fallen stalagmites between you and Slabhide. Crystal storm will shoot shards in all directions doing major damage to party member’s who are in line of sight of Slabhide.
After he casts Crystal Storm 2 times (in my experience) The stalagmites will disappear and Phase 1 will begin all over again.
Current group issues in phase 3 of Slabhide
Of course you will still have the same LOS issue as in Phase 2 but it is possible for noone to take damage from Crystal Storm in Phase 3 making the ability very trivial once you get the hang of it. Right now many players are having trouble finding their way behind a stalagmite in time, to better accommodate this players should be forward thinking about where they go before the spell is cast.
