Fix WoW Latency With WTFast

Lowering our wow ping time is often the topic of conversation in most vents.  If you play with an Australian guild such as I do then latency is definitely a huge issue. Reducing latency for us PVE raid players who play from abroad is essential as we often find the hardest bossto defeat is often the disconnect boss.  There are a few tricks and tips out there to help you bring your ping down, and reduce the lag you are currently playing with in World of Warcraft.  I have profiled another fix in World of Warcraft in the past with “Leatrix Latency Fix” that actually reduces the amount of packets your computer holds before sending out information which is sometimes nicknamed the “TCP Ack frequency fix”.  While the TCP Ack fix is one method players use to improve WoW lag if you also add in the Lowering latency service I am about to discuss you will definitely be reaping the rewards of better game play.

This time I want to talk about an SSH tunneling service which I use called WTFast. This service basically shortens your ping path to the gaming servers at Blizzard, and effectively transmits the information faster for you.  Our elementary schooling tells us that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, but unfortunately when dealing with internet connectivity it isn’t possible to really form a straight line.  With WTFast however it is possible to take a more direct route to the servers and make the path traveled much shorter.  Which will in turn decrease latency, reduce lag, and improve our ping.

What is WTFast

So first lets talk about what WTFast is and how it will help improve your latency, reduce your lag, and make your WoW client run faster.  Wtfast is a Tunneling service that helps optimize the route your connection takes to the World of Warcraft servers location.  For example if you are sitting on the East Coast USA and your server is on the West Coast USA then your ping my travel a route that takes many stops along the way before reaching the server, and actually communicating with World of Warcraft.  When you install WTFast it basically attempts to route your ping through a faster route to the server making less stops along the way and taking a more direct route so that there is less work involved in your connection. Does that make sense?  I hope so cause that about as Barney as I can break it down honestly.

Pros and Cons

Things I Like

OK so since this is a review site I will talk about the features I find really useful with WTFast and what I like.

  • Free Trial – If you want to give WTFast a try to see if it works for you then it is completely possible for you to use the Trial Client for WTFast before purchasing the draw back is that it will disconnect you every 20 minutes until you upgrade to the full version of WTFast
  • Great Customer Support – If you check the online forums you will see that the owner of WTFast actually answers feedback and tries to maintain a relationship with the customer base to help keep them satisfied.  I have tried to reach customer support a few times and have always received a response within 24 hours.
  • Cheap Cost- This probably varies person to person but for 5.99 per month I feel that lowering my WoW ping is a good investment considering how much time I spend playing WoW per month. And if you become a member of their facebook fan page you can refer your friend’s to get free access for a month as well.  Click this link and go to the FAQ section to find out more: —-WTFast—-
  • Supports All TCP Based Games – Most online games connect through what is either called TCP or UDP connection types.  If you play any other games online such as EvE, Warhammer, or any TCP connection type game then WTFast will also improve your gaming performance with those games as well.
  • Completely Compliant – WTFast does not alter or change your actual game files in any way, and is completely compliant with the World of Warcraft EULA and Terms of Service

A Few Things I Dont Like

  • No Macintosh Version – If you own or play exclusively on a Mac then WTFast is unfortunately not able to support you at this time.  I personally have both a Mac and Windows Machine.  I choose to play on the Windows machine for the improved latency but the 27 inches on my Mac is really calling my name often.  I hope they fix this soon!
  • No UDP Support – I love that WTFast is able to support multiple games with TCP I would like for them to simply apply it to UDP as well.
  • Only Works For One Computer – You must register your WTFast subscription with your computer so unfortunately you can not go to your friends house and run WTFast on his computer with your account.  I wish it would just detect you have one account online at a time.  So if you want to run WTFast on 2 machines you must purchase separate licenses.

So there you have it as far as the good and bad of WTFast from my perspective.  I personally love the service and see around a 200 latency improvement on my lag time.  I do thoroughly enjoy this product as a member of a high end raiding guild.  I am sure you guys will enjoy it to if you choose to use it..

Why would someone like Horde Review if they didn’t like WoW?

Leatrix is a good fix too. when I was playing awhile ago, my pings were about 300-500 (wireless.) Used the leatrix fixed, went down to 80 – 150
