Exclusive Interview with Machinimator WoPairs
If you follow the Machinima community at all then you have definitly heard of WoPairs by now. He is the mastermind video creator behind such videos as Abandonation vs. Nation and Achievement Whore which were recently featured on Horde Review. His recent splash onto the scene has been a big one, teaming up with Nation and GiGi who provide the lyrics while he provides the eye candy. Recently while on our twitter page I noticed a comment he had made about a review we had done on one of his recent machinima. I immediately seen this as an opportunity to introduce myself and request an interview with him.
It took some digging but I quickly found his facebook page, and sent an email. I was surprised to find a really down to earth young guy, who was incredibly humble about having fans at all. He quickly accepted the opportunity to be interviewed which thrilled me, and this is what we found out for all of you fans out there of the “legendary” WoPairs.
Hello WoPairs, so how is life in Australia?
It’s been really good, it’s been a very hot summer and we’ve been having lots of rain from the past weeks.
So tell us about your name how did you come up with WoPairs, and what is the meaning behind it?
Pairs is my main toon so i wanted to do machinima involving her as it was a good staring point for my machinima.’World of Pairs’ was my original name but WoPairs became simpler to say I guess.
Ahh I see… I read that you created your name by accidentally misspelling Paris, are you originally from Paris?
I was playing around with names and came up with ‘Paris’ but then misspelt it ‘Pairs’.
I’m 100% Australian and I have a Scottish background (but not the accent)
So how long have you been creating Machinima?
Years back I used to cut and paste in game footage, then I’ve seen people like Quix0tica use the model viewer to make machinima like a green screen so I thought I should try that. So my machinima has been improving ever since.
Your work is really professional. Do you have any plans on taking your hobby to a higher level, and maybe getting into some sort of art design school or advertising?
Yes, either work for a tv station and produce graphics for them or make music videos for singers in the main stream.
Is Machinima the only type of editing or art medium your into, or do you have other projects your involved in?
I do draw and use photoshop but I’d would really like to try real people in a green screen sometime.
So how do you start becoming a Machinimator? Do you have advice on where to start for someone wanting to begin creating Machinima?
It’s all about being creative. Have an idea go with it, experiment with different shots and angels and just have fun.
What are your favourite programs, and tools for Machinima?
Sony Vegas has been my favourite movie editor, but after effects has been looking promising.
Which ones do you not like to work with?
I tried adobe’s movie editor but I had problems with it.
I really started following you after your work on Abandonation vs. Nation in fact that was the first video ever featured on www.hordereview.com. How did it come for you to team up with Nation, and GiGi?
I singed up to the GCP forums that Nation and Gigi had and I promoted my machinimas there and out of the blue I get pm from Nation asking if I could do a machinima for him. Then weeks later a email from Gigi asking if I could help her with her interactive Halloween machinima. I would never had known I would be working with Nation and Gigi someday, but it happened. Still can’t get my head over it.
You guys have any plans of becoming a unified team under one name, or do you like staying freelance?
I might be doing more machinimas for the DruidboyZ but I don’t think will become a team as such, would be kool tho.
We want to know who you like to watch or follow, who are your favourite Machinimators?
Quix0tica machinimas are great and Yumfries has wonderful machinimas to
Anyone you would like to work or collab with?
I would love to collab with Quix0tica sometime, I think we would make a great machinima together.
How would you describe your style?
I would like to think my machinima style is unique but people could have there say.
Where do you see yourself progressing to with your Machinima in the future?
I will be doing heaps more, WoPairs will be around for years to come.
How does it feel to be an exclusive interview on www.hordereview.com?
It’s first for me I had never had a interview before, it’s been wonderful.
Anything else you would like to say, or a message to your fans?
Just keep subbing and more great machinimas will on the way in the future, and just a big thanks for supporting me.
