Etiquette for Noobs in Dungeons

Tonight I ran a random dungeon that turned out to be Shadowfang Keep. That was pretty lucky, because I think with all of my alternate Belynddora’s… I’ve ran it 4 times now. AND tonight I discovered that I’m NOT the newest kid on the block. I’ve gone thru a couple of dungeons with Bless, and with some other 70′s- 80′s that I’ve “picked up” along the way (one of which was Delliron as a matter of fact!)… and I’ve quickly learned a few of the do’s and don’ts.

  1. If you sign up to “tank” that means that you’re the one who’s supposed to go in and get the baddies a little at a time do that those of us who are signed up for damage can kill them without being completely overwhelmed.
  2. Warlocks and others who wear cloth armor are “squishy”… we die easily, and we need mana. If you are a “tank” I’m betting that your ‘lock is at least some of the time – keeping you alive. Give them the time to eat and drink before running out and drawing more “aggro”!
  3. If you’re lucky, and you have a friend of a friend who’s being nice and “running” you thru a dungeon (aka instance)… be sure you follow directions. AND… if they tell you to stay back… you should stay back. It’ll save some corpse runs for sure.
  4. The healer of the group, is supposed to stay back and just focus on healing the people that are in the fray!! Don’t let your ‘lock die! Then everyone dies! Simple right?

Now… that’s some very basic etiquette… here’s some other interesting tidbits.

  1. If you can’t use cloth armor….don’t select “NEED”. Same goes for mail, leather etc. You only hit the dice button for “NEED” when you actually DO need it! Now, supposedly the “Need before Greed” update is supposed to take care of people hitting “Need” for everything. However, I’ve noticed that it doesn’t seem to always do that… maybe it’s just me… but several times it’s seemed to bug out.
  2. I’ve been informed that if you aren’t “sure” if you would be able to use the item… always select “GREED”. I’ve also personally been known to select “Disenchant” on Green or Blue items, and have completely passed on things plenty of times.
  3. The leader of the group may also be the one to select which target to focus on first. Watch for the skull… that’s the one you want to aim at first! Now of course if you’re getting picked on by some mob dead set on, well… making you dead… take it out. But if you’re hanging back just wondering where to start when you see some crazy room that’s just completely jam packed with red… aim for the one that the leader has marked! (IF your leader does that.. otherwise… maybe just start with the ones closest to you.)
  4. Also… don’t go running off on your own. Stay with the group, or you’re going to end up bringing down a bunch of baddies all over everyone. I promise that if you get everyone killed… chances are the leader is going to just kick you out of the group.
  5. PRIOR to entering the dungeon finder, empty your bags and stock up on water, milk, bread or whatever you can. The new dungeon finder will match you up with people cross-realm. DON’T DEPEND ON a party member trading you sustenance! THAT’S JUST RUDE!

Maybe some of you are so new that you don’t even know really what I’m talking about? Perhaps, like so many of us, you’ve just blissfully been going about your quests with no clue that there’s a whole OTHER world of WoW out there called “Dungeons”?

Here’s how you get to one!

Somewhere on your screen you’ll see an icon of an “eyeball”. Like this:

If you click that icon, you’ll get this:

(the reward will be different for everyone and obviously.. this isn’t MINE!)

Then, you select which role in the group you are willing to play. If you don’t want to be a tank, well, then don’t select tank, and, quite possibly like a guild-mate of mine… you’ll have to wait an enormous amount of time for a group. (Since he just refuses to play his DK as a Tank)

Each class will only have certain roles available to it. For instance… my warlock doesn’t even have the option of being a tank! (But apparently the DK does!)

If you’re unsure if you could lead a group successfully through a dungeon… DO NOT SELECT THE GREEN FLAG! (everyone will be very angry if you get them killed for your inexperience)

Now… once you do all of that… that “eyeball” looking back and forth will be on one of the icons clustered around your mini-map. (that’s the small map at the top right of your screen)

When you’re up and ready to go into the dungeon, the eye will stop looking back and forth. Just click it, and it will bring up the option to join the group, and tada… you’re there instantly!

Soo… who wants to run a dungeon with me huh?

Comon… you know you do!

XOXO

Zy -YES that was comment was totally about that day where you just threw a fit and refused to tank! AND… I'm about to write my weekly article, and it's definitely going to include the TM incident! You are correct, that was funny stuff.. after I was saying lots of dirty words, then suddenly started laughing so hard, my roommate didn't know what to think!

Haha Is that Dk comment for me? at the time I refused to even think about tanking on him, however as times change and the wait to find a group as a dps grows longer and longer, I have begun to aquire some "tank" gear on my DK.

I wouldn't mind writing articles on unspoken rules in wow, but I have not the time to dedicate myself to it with everything going on, but feel free to hit me up in game or on vent and I can give you lots of interesting things to write about, not limited to but including all the things that annoy tanks & healers.

bah well just getting squared away. I have come down with a serious case of food poisoning over the past few days though. Kinda kept me from doing anything.
